Okay, so every single person who has got into makeup knows that it gets ADDICTIVE, i mean the: ‘i really, really, really don’t need any more of this, but i don’t have this shade and it would go perfect with everything, so i guess i kinda need it’ type of addictive. And i guess it isn’t a big deal at first, especially when its just the basics /or cheaper products, BUT when you discover the door to a universe of makeup- there is no turning back.
-You know when you learn about drugs in school, and you get taught about the gateway/stepping-stone drugs and how they can lead people onto more addictive drugs. This is how i see makeup- except very legal.
My addiction started with the Natural Collection line, where i would wear the basic and standard tinted moisturiser, mascara with concealer if i was really going out there. I think i speak for every person when i say that we all have been at this stage of our makeup career at some point or another. From here i was always finding new brands and products but because i never really had any money to spend on makeup, i just kept to the cheaper brands and didn’t really experiment.

It wasn’t until i started to have money that i began getting really interested, MAC was my first high end makeup investment. For my birthday not long after i discovered the depth of makeup, my parents got me a MAC voucher where i was able to have my makeup done, and could use the voucher to purchase products- this was my first haul, i have to admit i bought so so much. That was it- I was hooked.
I started investing in Benefit products, Smashbox, and Urban Decay along with MAC still. It is ridiculous how much money you spend. I've been buying high-end makeup ever since, probably about 2 years now- which is a significant amount of time considering how long i’ve been wearing makeup.
-In this amount of time, i completely forgot that cheaper brands actually do sell good quality makeup and would always look down on drugstore brands, which is ridiculous!!
I’m not too sure what made me remember that there are affordable products that are just as good, but it is most likely linked to my obsession over youtube hauls/reviews/impression videos. This is when i remembered that eBay was a thing! Watching all the Ebay makeup hauls/dupe videos i was desperate to try the products out for myself and make my own decision on whether spending loads of money on high end makeup was worth it, when cheap unbranded products are half the price and just as good!
After purchasing some cheap products- which, to be fair i had done some research on to make sure i wasn’t just wasting my money- i was over the moon with the results. Obviously i cannot recommend just any random product that is cheap, especially buying unbranded products online, because the overall payoff might just be a daunting regret. However i am very good at looking into reviews and impressions of individual products on various people and would love to share my experiences to anyone who is interested- because trust me, its worth it!
After finding the haven that is cheaper makeup, the only expensive/high end item i keep re-purchasing is foundation- and thats only because i cannot find a foundation that i am 100% content with yet. ALSO another bonus with these cheap alternatives, you can buy 2x as much (or more) that you would with high end makeup.
So, if you have to walk away learning one thing from this post…Look at a quick youtube video or review before spending money on something that there are already 100 negative comments about! There are thousands of makeup posts out there to get stuck into, so if a bargain is something you're into then go for it!
NGL i am good at my research and want to share my finds with everyone possible! So i will be posting soon about my favourite makeup products that i honestly think are just as good and a fraction of the high end prices. Feel free to subscribe to keep updated when a new post is up!
Are you a makeup snob or a Bargain geek?

I think I'm a bit of both when it comes to makeup - I really can't justify spending more than £10 on a concealer so I always stick to drugstore! But I do love a good high end highlighter on the other hand!

Yes! I have a huge cheap makeup order on the way, which includes highlight too- ill try them out and if they're something to shout about (which I'm hoping they are) i'll let you know!!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the high end and its so bad. I started wearing make-up and after a strong 5 months everything I bought was high-end and nothing else was good enough. I'm learning though ahah xx

Its an easy trap to get caught in! xx
DeleteYou, I like you! I haven't ever bought anything high-end, because that's just not in my budget. I am DYING to have some Too Faced and Tarte in my collection though. I've been using a fair bit of e.l.f. Cosmetics, Essence and Milani Cosmetics, because I find them to be quite nice for the price, and best of all, they're all cruelty-free and mostly vegan.
